Abdullah Awad was arrested on 25 March 2009 at his home in Al-Arish, northern Sinai, by State Security Intelligence (SSI) and held incommunicado for 2 months at their headquarters in Nasr City, Cairo, during which time he was brutally tortured. Read more…

The lifeless body of Mr Magdi Marei was thrown from a police car on 11 July 2009 near the village of Arimon in Al-Beheira Governorate, in the northwest of Egypt. Alkarama learned that 15 people were arrested at dawn on 20 August 2009. Members of the security services in Al-Buheiri accompanied by Special Forces belonging to the Central Police, forced their way into the homes of these men and arrested them. Egypt: 32 arrested in Suez by State Security

Alkarama has just received information from a reliable source that 32 people have been arrested in the governorate of Suez.
On the afternoon of 8 August 2009, State Security supported by the Special Forces of the Central Security Agency forcibly entered the residence of Yasser Ibrahim (a chemist working at the Red Sea Port Authority) and arrested him in addition to 31 of his guests. Their names are: (عربي) (Français)

Alkarama has sent an urgent appeal today to the Working Group on Enforced and Involuntary Disappearances asking it to intercede with the Egyptian authorities in the case of 16 Egyptian nationals who disappeared in Mansoura province between 2 and 26 July 2009, after being arrested by the Egyptian State Security Intelligence (SSI). Dr Ashraf Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Secretary General of the Egyptian Medical Association, was arrested on 2 July 2009 at the Cairo airport on his way to Turkey.
